Forbes recently announced its picks for America’s Prettiest Neighborhoods. As a REALTOR® and resident of Coronado I am proud to announce that Coronado, California made the list! According to the Forbes article, “Not all neighborhoods are created equal.” According to the article, Forbes enlisted the help of Kendra Williams, travel editor from Midwest Living and Mark Sedenquist, publisher of an encyclopedic online compendium of the country’s best road trips to compile a list of the prettiest neighborhoods in the country. The article reported that some of the neighborhoods are nestled within larger cities or towns, and a couple are towns in their own right, but are so unified in their look or appeal that they are as closely-knit as a neighborhood. The common denominator is that all are unique in one way or another, and represent the best of the country’s beautiful communities.”
Coronado Island is described in the article as; “A short drive across the Coronado Bridge from downtown San Diego is a small island chock-full of summery restaurants, stately homes, a world-class beach that stretches all the way south to Mexico, and a number of inviting hotels including one huge, famous hotel dating back to the late 1800s. Coronado Island is surrounded by San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, which helps cement the eternal summer vibe of the place. The Hotel Del Coronado, a large wooden Victorian Beach resort that is on the list of National Historic Landmarks, gives the seaside an upscale yet accessible feel that is unlike any other beachfront community in the country.”
The Forbes article was spot on when is stated, “And for beach lovers, nothing beats a trip to one of the West Coast’s most prized beach communities (located as far south as you can get without hitting Mexico). Coronado Island, separated from San Diego by a bridge over the bay, is a perfect warm weather destination, with ice cream shops, seafood restaurants, a set of stunningly beautiful beaches, and a historic Victorian-era hotel that makes the area a special summertime treat.”

While you are visiting Coronado, California be sure to make a day of wine tasting in San Diego. A little known secret is that there are more than 20 commercial wineries in San Diego County, with others on the way. In fact, one of the wineries is over 120 years old. “ It’s a renaissance in local winemaking,” insiders say. Many of the wineries offer tastings at a nominal fee and include a souvenir glass.
